Peace as Protection in Low Country Hoodoo!

Peace and protection are deeply interconnected. Reading the Bible shows that God's protection is a source of peace for us. Isaiah 26:3 can be used for that as it reads, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you." Reading the passage suggests that when unwavering trust in God not only ensures protection but also grants peace. For that, unwavering peace is trust in yourself as we look inside of ourselves and not outside of ourselves.

From a spiritual perspective in Hoodoo, you are not looking for a God in the sky to give you peace; instead, you are tapping into the God within you to maintain your inner peace. Recognizing and embracing who you are and who you were created to be is seen as a form of protection. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual cleansing are employed to shield your God-self energy.

With all that is happening politically and the negative influences around us, it is essential for us as Black folks to foster a tranquil inner state. Inner peace can indeed create a protective barrier against external disturbances in this world. Within Low Country Hoodoo and many Hoodoo and Rootwork systems, our peace can manifest as our divine protection from the God within ourselves, helping us to navigate life's challenges.
