Module 7: Riding The Winds of Change with The Spirit of the Winds
Change: The Essence of Life in the Context of Ancestors, Hoodoo, and Rootwork
As we journey from module to module 7, we are digging a little deeper into grief and how it applies to Hoodoo and Rootwork. We are going over the fact that life is not meant to be static. It moves, shifts, and sometimes sweeps us like a mighty wind—disrupting what is to make way for new cycles. This module will explore the Spirit of the Wind's role and how it helps us navigate transitions. Prepare to honor the winds of change and let them guide your life's transformation.
In Hoodoo and Rootwork, life is not a destination to reach, nor does one yearn for it to be over quickly, always wanting cycles to end before the time. Some Elders say that you are calling an early death near to you.
We are all on a journey, and transitions mark Earth; just like school, you move on to one grade after another. And so do we in life. We move from one stage to another. The stages of life can be both expected and unexpected. My Elders would say, "Chil, you knew there was coming." Many times, we know certain things are coming. But one of the wonderful things about life is that it is full of surprises
.
A valuable skill we can cultivate as Rootworkers and Hoodoo Practitioners is navigating change with grace and resilience. In Hoodoo and Rootwork, we understand that change is not only a part of life but necessary. Many times, as a practitioner for yourself or your family or, like myself, you serve the community at large, and you are helping yourself and others through change. And let's face the truth that many folks don't see change or challenges as a profound opportunity for growth and transformation. Many see change as a nuisance and inconvenience to their stuck ways. Or challenging things that require work, dedication, and skills development as "too hard" or wanting the most straightforward path with the least resistance that doesn't challenge them to grow.
